Goshen Elementary Accelerated Reader

AR Instructions:

1. Select an AR book from the Goshen Library with a sticker like the ones below on the spine.  Be sure to stick to your grade level (ask your teacher to help with this).  See the "List of Goshen AR Books".

2. Read the book on your own, with help, or have it read to you by a parent.  Review the book to be sure you remember what you read.

3. Fill out a "ready to test" form with your parents.  Return the form to your teacher.

4.  Take your AR test in your classroom (when your teacher allows), in the media center during your assigned day, or on Friday during AR Rockin Reader Friday!  Points will be awarded based on the % of questions answered correctly.

5.  Keep READING! and remember to take your tests to accumulate points that you can redeem for prizes in your classroom.  Don't forget to check out the Goshen Rocking Readers Wall of Fame to see the reading stars!

What is Accelerated Reader (AR)?

AR is the world's most widely used reading software that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. (Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read.) AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. In addition, the child accumulates points based on the percentage of questions answered correctly.  Students may redeem points for various prizes!

My child is not a strong reader. Can she still use Accelerated Reader?

Accelerated Reader helps all children become better readers, from students with special needs to those who are gifted and talented. When children read books at an appropriate level, they experience success. Furthermore, teachers work with children to set appropriate goals based on each child’s reading level.
Look for a book in the Media Center with these stickers!

The AR Program is run by parent volunteers!  We need volunteers to read to students in the media center and assist students who wish to take A/R tests.  Please click here to volunteer to read to your child's class - or any class!  Training provided!
